Will I be unconscious during sedation?
Consciousness levels vary by sedation type:
Nitrous Oxide: - Fully conscious - Relaxed and euphoric - Can respond to instructions - Remember the procedure - Aware of surroundings
Oral Sedation: - Conscious but very relaxed - May drift in and out - Can respond but slowly - Little to no memory - Time passes quickly
IV Sedation: - "Twilight" state - Technically conscious - Can respond to commands - Usually no memory - Feels like you slept through it
General Anesthesia: - Fully unconscious - No awareness - Cannot be awakened - No memory - Used for complex/lengthy procedures
Most dental procedures use IV sedation, which provides: - Deep relaxation - No anxiety - No memory of procedure - Quick recovery - Feeling like you "slept through it"
Your consultation will determine which level is appropriate for your needs and procedure.
