Why are dental X-rays necessary?
Dental X-rays show what we can't see with our eyes:
What X-rays reveal: - Cavities between teeth - Decay under fillings - Bone loss from gum disease - Infections at root tips - Impacted teeth - Cysts or tumors - Tooth root problems
Types of dental X-rays: - Bitewings: Cavities between teeth (yearly) - Periapical: Full tooth and root - Panoramic: Entire mouth overview - 3D CBCT: Detailed for implants/surgery
When X-rays are taken: - New patient: Full mouth series - Regular visits: Bitewings yearly - As needed for symptoms - Before implants or extractions
Safety of dental X-rays: - Very low radiation - Digital X-rays use 80% less than film - Lead apron protection - Benefits far outweigh minimal risk - Equivalent to daily background radiation
Without X-rays we would miss: - 40% of cavities - Early bone loss - Infections before they become painful - Problems developing silently
We take only necessary X-rays and use the latest digital technology for minimal exposure.
