What are Invisalign attachments (buttons)?
Invisalign attachments (also called buttons) are small, tooth-colored bumps placed on certain teeth to help aligners move teeth more effectively.
Purpose of attachments: - Give aligners something to grip - Enable complex tooth movements - Improve rotation of teeth - Help with bite correction - Make treatment more predictable
What they look like: - Small (2-3mm) raised bumps - Tooth-colored composite material - Barely noticeable - Some patients need none, others many
Attachment facts: - Painless to place (10-15 minutes) - Don't damage teeth - Removed easily after treatment - May cause initial lip awareness - Aligners click onto them
Living with attachments: - May feel rough initially - Lips/cheeks adapt quickly - Food doesn't stick to them - Brush around them normally - Attachments + aligners still discreet
Not everyone needs attachments. Your treatment plan determines if and where attachments are needed based on the movements required.
