What is considered a dental emergency?
These situations require immediate care:
True emergencies (call immediately): - Knocked-out tooth - Severe, uncontrolled pain - Swelling in face/neck (infection) - Uncontrolled bleeding - Broken jaw - Difficulty breathing/swallowing
Urgent care needed (same day): - Broken or cracked tooth - Lost filling or crown - Severe toothache - Abscess/infection signs - Object stuck between teeth
Can wait for regular appointment: - Minor chip (no pain) - Lost filling (no pain) - Mild sensitivity - Cosmetic concerns
What to do in emergency: 1. Stay calm 2. Call us immediately: (703) 729-6222 3. Follow first aid instructions (see below) 4. Come in for treatment
Knocked-out tooth first aid: - Handle by crown only (not root) - Rinse gently if dirty - Try to reinsert in socket - If not, place in milk or saliva - Get to us within 30 minutes
We reserve time for emergencies and can often see you the same day.
