What is the difference between veneers and crowns?
Veneers and crowns serve different purposes:
Porcelain Veneers: - Cover front surface only - Minimal tooth reduction (0.3-0.5mm) - Primarily cosmetic - Best for healthy teeth needing aesthetic improvement - Ideal for chips, stains, minor gaps
Crowns: - Cover the entire tooth - More tooth reduction required - Restore structure and function - Best for damaged, weak, or root canal treated teeth - Provide more strength
When to choose veneers: - Cosmetic concerns only - Teeth are structurally sound - Want minimal tooth reduction - Changing shape, color, or minor alignment
When to choose crowns: - Large fillings - After root canal - Cracked or broken teeth - Severe wear - Need structural reinforcement
Sometimes we combine both: - Crowns on damaged teeth - Veneers on healthy teeth - Seamless, matching appearance
Your consultation will determine the best option for each tooth.
